Nightstop London Hosts Win Award

November 17th, 2015

We are so proud of our fantastic Nightstop London volunteers, winners of the 'My Community' Award this week. This is much-deserved recognition from Team London and the Mayor's Awards for our hosts who welcome scared and often isolated young people into their homes, preventing homelessness one young person at a time.

Here is how they won:

'My Community' winner: Nightstop London Volunteer Hosts.

Nightstop London volunteer hosts provide emergency accommodation for young homeless people aged 16 to 25 years in their spare bedrooms. Volunteer hosts offer a safe haven providing a warm welcome, and a listening ear to young people who are often feeling isolated, scared, abandoned and depressed.

The Nightstop volunteer hosts reflect the diversity of London in age, ethnicity, religion and occupation, but all have in common, a deep desire to help address the problem of youth homelessness in their community.

The charity have a changing number of volunteers on any one day and currently have 62 hosts across 23 London boroughs providing a safe place for a young person until a move into a hostel or other accommodation comes available. Each volunteer offers a minimum of 56 hours a month, adding up to 42,000 hours a year to keep young people safe and off the streets.

Nightstop volunteers change a life with every bed they provide.
