Depaul UK joins PPL celebration
January 26th, 2018
Depaul UK is delighted to have attended the 2018 People’s Postcode Lottery annual Charity Gala where it was announced that £93.4million was awarded to charities and good causes in 2017 – thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Depaul UK received an incredible £2,515,551 in 2017 which enabled it to increase the organisation’s homelessness prevention and community services developing support through Nightstop across the UK.
The significant funding also provides the charity with the ability to create a portfolio of properties providing support for young people or the potential for them to positively move forward.
Creating a tailored schools education package also provides vital awareness with the aim of preventing further youth homelessness.
In addition, Depaul UK is able to extend its community services offering young people the chance to prosper individually though our dedicated programme, and the Get Up and Go programme delivering tailored education and employment training for young people engaged in Depaul’s services across the UK.
Depaul UK estimates that, with players of People’s Postcode Lottery support, by 2020 it will be able to extend its reach across the UK and provide 3,000 young people with supported accommodation and at least 20,000 nights of emergency accommodation.
As a result, Britain will also be a safer place for children who run away from home or are left without a safe place to sleep. With players’ support, Depaul UK will work toward no young person sleeping in an unsafe place.
The gala was a celebration of the phenomenal achievements of charities working across Britain and internationally that are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The lottery also took the opportunity to announce an increase to 32 percent of each ticket sale going directly to good causes.
The news of the funding total and increase was shared at the annual event, on Tuesday, 23 January, at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.
The event was attended by film star Emma Thompson, broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan and TV presenter Fiona Phillips. Entertainment on the night was provided by Heather Small.
Depaul UK Fundraising Director Joseph Howes said: “The incredible support from players of People's Postcode Lottery has provided Depaul UK with the ability to exponentially increase its scale of dedicated support and accommodation services.
“This means we can reach a greater number of young people supported across the UK ensuring those young people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness have the reassurance of a safe place to stay.
“On behalf of Depaul UK, I would like to extend our sincere thanks for the players’ incredible generosity and commitment in helping us end youth homelessness.”
